Ladies and Gentlemen welcome back to the second installment of My Dear Valentine. As always, I am your loving storyteller, Mr.X. Now let’s continue from where we left off. Will Jason be able to finally finished what he started? Or is the future doomed to repeat itself? Well, there is no use sitting around speculating, now let us continue our most interesting narrative!

Jason and Crow walked into the gym and true enough Asuly was there going about her workout normally. Jason started to grow a bit nervous. Crap, it’s almost showtime, the moment she finishes her workout I’m going to… Jason shook his head furiously, “I can’t worry about something that hasn’t even happened yet, just gotta trust things will be different this time.” Jason whispered to himself to stop worrying. In the meantime, Jason and Crow continued to workout in the gym and for a time that did help to clam Jason’s nerves. However, every time Jason glanced at Asuly or Crow flashed him a cheeky grin, Jason’s nerves would be pulled on edge. After a while, Jason and Crow left the gym a bit earlier than expected. The two of them were waiting outside. Jason began rummaging through his backpack looking for the card and Penguin and panda. “So the plan is that you give her the gifts as she is leaving correct?” asked Crow.

“Yeah, that’s the plan, unless you have something better?” Jason responded as he gathered his key items. “No, that seems to be a solid plan, but are you having any second thoughts?” asked Crow. Jason remained silent as he finally found the card, but before he could answer Asuly walked out of the gym preparing to leave.

Ok, it’s showtime! Jason made his way toward her. He waved at her as she smiled and waved back. “Oh yeah, here, happy Valentine’s day, Asuly.” Jason said while giving her the card. Immediately, Jason noticed the change in Asuly’s facial expression which turned from a smile to a slight bit of confusion. “Uh… How nice, but I got nothing for you.” Asuly said timidly. Something doesn’t feel right, but Jason didn’t have time to give into his thoughts so he waved away her concern saying, “I didn’t want anything, I just felt like doing this, oh and this is also for you.” Jason handed Asuly a small beanie baby of a penguin that looked a bit dingy. As Asuly grabbed hold of the small penguin, her face became more confused and slightly uncomfortable. Jason was busy trying to deduce what this could mean as his instincts began to scream at him, BAD MOVE, THIS ISN’T GOOD! “Are you sure this isn’t too much?” Asuly asked forcing a smile. Jason had to put suspicions behind him to keep in character, “Yeah you’re right that gifts kinda suck, I wish it was a killer whale but that was difficult to find” Jason said as he took beanie baby back. As he walked away he noticed a slight look of relief on her face. Jason soon returned to Asuly again with the two bigger stuffed animals of the Penguin and the Panda. “Yeah, I know the last gift sucked, so you can have these instead,” Jason said sticking to the act. Asuly’s face turned into one of surprise. However, Jason could no longer ignore his suspicion as he noticed her face of surprise was more of unease rather than delight.

“Is something wrong?”

“N-no it’s just that I kinda feel bad that you did this for me.”

“It’s no problem, here take them.”

“No, I can’t accept these…”

“Why is that?”

“It’s… Just too much.”

Something smells foul here. Noticing how bad the situation was going, Crow jumped in to snatch the panda away from Jason and run and make fun of him. Jason saw and understood Crow’s tactic, He is trying to cut the tension, good job Crow. It had some effect as Asuly laughed lightly saying, “Seems like Crow really likes the Panda.” Jason was too busy lost in thought to really care. “Are you sure you don’t want the penguin, I got it for free so it means nothing whether you take it,” Jason asked offhandedly as if he already knew her answer.

“No, it’s ok. It’s just too much and I feel bad.” Asuly said. The look on her face sent Jason reeling as it reminded him of someone else that gave a similar expression before. With that, Asuly rushed out from the area, leaving behind Crow and Jason. After a brief moment of silence, Crow still holding the panda walked up to Jason still holding the penguin. They both stared at each other in silence then said simultaneously, “What the @#$! Just happened?” Crow was completely confused as to how or what happened. Jason, on the other hand, didn’t seem too surprised at the sudden outcome. As a matter of fact, he seemed to be laughing without a care. Crow was confused, “I think I’m more upset by this outcome then you are, Jason.”

“Oh no, Crow, I actually am quite upset, I’m just better at hiding it. Besides, I think I know why this happened.”

“I can’t say for certain, but at the very least, I hope he is a nice guy.”

Jason said that trying to feign amusement. This is very similar to last time, I still can’t change a thing, huh? Jason still lost in his own thought, Crow tried asking him what he meant by “a nice guy” comment. However, Jason merely dismissed it as it was not important. “Well look on the bright side, at least she took the card that might be your saving grace,” Crow said with words of encouragement. Jason kept replaying the scene of Asuly’s face looking increasingly bothered and said, “For some reason, I don’t think I will hear from her, not about the letter anyway.” With that it was over, Jason was faced with another failure. He spent the rest of that day with Crow and Comrade, but that was it nothing more Jason could do.

Over the weekend, Jason spent the majority of his time throwing him to his work. During the weekend, Jason told some of his other friends the story. Apparently, many of them came to the same conclusion that Jason had reached. The conclusion that Jason reached was, there is another guy in play. Jason wasn’t really mad, but it left him with a lot of unanswered questions. Unfortunately, there was still more to come.

February 20, 2018 Revelation

Another day where Jason is running late, emphasis on the running part. “Damn it, I have to stop oversleeping on these days,” Jason said as he was both eating and running at the same time, desperately trying to catch the bus. Just as the bus was about to pass his stop, Jason bolted in a figure 8 peel out in hopes of catching it. Luckily, Jason managed to get on the bus just in time albeit barely. Exhausted, Jason finds the closest seat available to him and collapse onto the seat while he continues to eat his makeshift breakfast. Jason begins to stare out of the bus window absent-mindedly all while recalling his most recent screw-up. “Whats up, Jason?” suddenly someone called out to Jason disturbing his thoughts. Jason turns to see who it is only to find, Trevor. As in the same Trevor dating Asuly’s Identical twin sister, Angel. Jason vaguely responds with a “nothing much” as he silently laughs at the god of random encounters. Seriously, haven’t I suffered enough? Contrary to his thoughts, Jason remained polite and friendly towards Trevor as they engaged in conversation.

“So how was your weekend, Jason?”

“Boring and also a bit depressing, how about yours?”

“I pretty much spent it watching anime and such.”

The conversation went on like this for a while. The conversed about normal topics and the like. Although, Jason had the urge to bring up a specific topic for a brief moment.

“So, Trevor what you do last week on Valentine’s day?”

“What did I do… Oh yeah, I slept, that’s it. How about you what did you do?”

So he heard nothing, huh? “I spent it hanging out with my friends nothing big really.”

“I see, sounds cool.”

Jason remained silent for a few more minutes, then decided, He probably can shed some light on this mystery. Jason begins to tell Trevor the truth of his Valentines day debacle, “Trevor the truth is that I-” “You tried to give Asuly the stuffed animal and you failed.” Trevor stated beating Jason to the punch. Jason looked more annoyed than surprised. Of course, he knew, he’s dating the sister.

“So, then you are already aware of my failure?”

“Well, I have a theory as to why it failed.”

“Oh, what’s your theory?”

“I’m guessing another guy in play.”

“Not possible.”

“Huh?” Jason’s face is filled to the brim with confusion. Puzzled, Jason pressed on for answers.

“Wait a minute, ‘not possible’ what do you mean that’s not possible?”

“I mean, as far as I know, your the only guy that has been making moves on her.”

“Ok, color me confused now.”

Trevor began to give Jason an explanation as to why Asuly has acted so peculiar. Apparently, Asuly isn’t psychologically ready for a relationship. Meaning, Asuly can get severely stressed out which results in her having to cut herself for relief. So, basically think of Yuri from Doki Doki Literature Club. Jason in sitting speechless at Trevor’s explanation, with no idea how to process the information. Trevor even goes on to say that, he and Angel were trying to find a way to tell Jason about it. In addition to the fact, the Trevor meant to tell Jason about this in the past but kept forgetting. Immediately, Jason was enraged and began to speak. “You do realize if you told me this from the very beginning I wouldn’t have done what I did on Valentines Day, right?”

“Yeah sorry, that’s my bad.”

“Your bad!? You realize you made me seem like an obsessive stalker that can’t take a hint, right?” Jason was beyond upset, this entire situation from the events of Twinsanity and onward could have all been avoided if someone just opened up and told him. Everything makes sense now, that time I noticed the scars on Asuly’s hand, why didn’t I notice the significance earlier!!! Jason was in a down whirl spiral of confusion, irritation, and grief.

“Trevor, for future reference, if you have anything to tell me, just be straightforward. You’ll save everyone a lot of time.”

“Now what the hell do I do now?”

“Well, now that you know, maybe you can now try to be genuine friends with Asuly.”

“I don’t think that’s possible.”

Jason was at his limit and could no longer entertain this ridiculous conversation. As per usual Jason just laughed off the situation and moved the topic of conversation to something else.

Later that day, Jason is in class listening to his teacher’s lecture while thinking to himself. Tch looks like my deduction was horribly off the mark this time. Do I continue to be her friend or run away while I still can? However, as the lecture continued along with his thoughts. Jason began to have trouble seeing and his vision became very blurry. “What the heck?” Jason said as he began to rub his eyes. Jason had tears in his eyes, he couldn’t quite explain why, but Jason began to cry randomly. He quickly ran to the bathroom to wash his face. After a few moments of drying his face, Jason’s eyes began to tear up and cry all over again. “Why the hell am I in tears?” Jason was still at a loss as to what was happening to him. Much to Jason’s annoyance, for the rest of the day the tears kept coming and Jason still couldn’t explain why.

February 26, 2018 Confrontation

After another week of decision making and dealing with Comrade and Crow’s nonsense. Jason was still mulling over how to progress the plot. There were still questions left unanswered. Such as why didn’t Asuly simply reject Jason’s dating proposal. Why did she entertain Jason’s forward nature for so long? What the hell was up with feigning nice all the time? Should he really become friends with her? Jason asked many of his friends, including his brother for their opinion on the matter, he got a lot of mixed responses. Most of them were telling him to run away from this whole ordeal. Jason finally came to a decision. “If I want answers, it’s best to get it from the horse’s mouth.” With that Jason began to take a walk.

Jason arrived at the gym, but this time he didn’t come to workout. He came specifically, for one person. As Jason walked in he saw Asuly in a room in the middle of her exercise. Just the sight of her made Jason’s nervousness spike. Why am I so nervous all of a sudden? Jason soon noticed his heart rate was a lot higher than usual. However, he had no time to really ponder it. As far as he was concerned, this was not a guy talking to the girl he liked, it was a detective about to interrogate a suspect. Though, no matter how he sliced it, Jason was afraid, but of what? That was anyone’s guess. Jason went up to Asuly and waved at her. Noticing him she took off her headphones and began to sit and listen.

“Sorry for disturbing you, but I’ve come to settle things,” Jason said with conviction. Immediately, Jason clapped his hands in a prayer, position saying, “I’m 1,000% sorry for what I did. I honestly didn’t mean to be put you in such an awkward position.” Jason kept apologizing profusely. After a bit, Asuly waved it off with a “Don’t worry about it, it’s fine.” With the apology out of the way, Jason, with fire in his eyes, began to take the lead. “Asuly, if I can make a grand deduction.” Asuly raised her eyebrow as Jason continued. “You don’t like me at all do you?” Jason declared, but Asuly had a surprised look on her face which then turned into a strained look. So she won’t answer that question, ok. Realizing he won’t get anywhere, Jason rescinded the answer and asked, “Why didn’t you just say no when I asked you out?” Asuly paused at the question then said, “You asked me out? When?” What? Now Jason was confused, “Yes, I did actually, remember that night when I ran after you?”

“That was you asking me out? Sorry, I’ve never really been asked out before, so I didn’t know.”

“I find that hard to believe,” Jason responded coldly. Asuly laughed with a slight blush, taking the remark as a compliment. However, Jason really meant, You’re lying through your teeth. See, in the events of Twinsanity, Jason actually confessed his feelings for Asuly after he asked her out. Second, her sister, Angel is currently dating Trevor and Trevor would tell Jason a good portion of how Asuly felt towards him. Jason knew she was lying, but he promised he would not reveal that he knew Asuly’s secret to her, so he had no choice but to swallow the lie. Jason asked another question, “Why were you acting so nice to me?” Asuly paused again and really thought of an answer, after a while she answered, “Because you are my friend, right?” “Jury’s still out.” Jason immediately responded shooting down the possibility. I don’t know how much more of this BS I can take. Jason soon asked her to stop being so nice to his face because he hates(especially if you claim to be his friend) when you act fake and try to placate him. Asuly was confused not really understanding what he meant. Jason becoming fed up with the lies and his inability to expose the truth gave Asuly an ultimatum. “Basically, if you want to become friends I leave that entirely up to you. Otherwise, I will leave you alone and not bother you anymore.” This is your last chance to leave Asuly, otherwise… Asuly still appeared to not understand the truth behind Jason’s words and said, “It’s not really a big deal, we can still be friends.” “Fine, but if we are going to be friends you must be straightforward with me. If something bothers you in any way, then say it. This is a two-way street.” After Jason spoke, he extended his hand toward Asuly. She grabbed it and the two of them shook on it, making an agreement to become proper friends.

What a way to reign in the new year folks? Jason finding out that his dear Asuly had such an ugly skeleton in her closet. So much for finding a way into Asuly’s heart. Still, a nice way to wrap of this arc. Although there are still some unanswered questions, such as why did Asuly continue with her apparent lies? Will Jason ever reveal to Asuly that he is aware of the truth? Can Trevor’s words really be trusted on the matter? In addition, if Asuly had to resort to cutting to deal with her stress, then how did her twin, Angel, deal with her own issues growing up. Not to mention the most important question of all, can Jason and Asuly really be good friends, or was that just a mistake waiting to happen? Only time can really unravel these mysteries. I honestly, can’t say for certain whether this will be the last we will hear of Asuly, but I suppose anything is possible. As always Ladies and Gentlemen, I am X, Mr. X, and I would like to humbly thank you for reading another one of my peculiar adventures. Please feel free to share my work if you deem it worthy, so until next time. SEE YOU IN THE NEXT ENTRY.
